When Canada's first astronaut, Mark Garneau, was on his first Space Shuttle Columbia mission, he needed sunglasses to protect him from the ultraviolet radiation in space. We were chosen as the supplier of the eyewear that he used on that mission. Subsequently, we supplied Canada's Atmospheric Environment Agency with another 20 pairs for astronauts in training.
We offer a variety of stylish brand-name sunglasses, including:
Gordon Wood Optical offers fitover sunglasses to wear over your prescription glasses with optimal sun coverage.
Our brands include:
We are often asked to supply clip-on sunglasses that fit over prescription spectacles. There are generally three options. In some cases, the frame manufacturer makes a matching clip.
A second choice is to purchase a ready-made, generic clip-on; we have several suppliers of these. They are high quality and have optical-quality lenses. Some are even available with polarized lenses. The only limitation is they are not available in all frame shapes and colours.
If your frame does not allow one of the above solutions, we can have a custom-made clip-on constructed. These are handcrafted by skilled technicians at companies that specialize in clip-ons. They are available in many different frame colours and any shape. You may also choose the lens colour you want, along with any lens options you may wish to have.
We have also made clips that, instead of sunglass lenses, have the power required to focus clearly at intermediate distances. These would normally be used for things like working on a computer, sewing or crafts. They are attached when you need to see clearly at arms length.
These clips can be fitted to your existing frames, even if you didn't purchase them from us.
If you need clip-on sunglasses, we invite you to drop by and see what we have available for you.
